I
tried to envision Arab missiles or mortar shells fired into my
neighborhood constantly. I thought about what that would be like. Some
of the things I thought were simple. For example, what would I do if
the warning sirens began to blare while showering? In my mind, I began
to move through my home and look at all the things I do here. What
would it be like to live under the threat of having an Iranian made
rocket, such as those Hamas uses, come crashing through my roof or
worse, through the roof of my daughter’s bedroom?
I thought
about the pregnant woman or the grandma and grandpa running for cover.
Little things came to mind like cooking or playing with my
granddaughter as a Hamas missile strikes my home. I considered the
newlyweds (my son and daughter in law for example) trying to start a
new life together running for cover with just 10 seconds warning. I
just thought about what we all do. It was obvious that I could not
imagine that scenario for very long. After all, who wants to live with
that sort of hell for years and years?
Equally, I wondered what
it would be like to have a group of lunatics drive up to the front of
my house, walk to the back of my property, and begin firing missiles
into Portland.
How do you go out of your patio door to confront
that sort of madness? Who on earth votes for this sort of evil? How can
this sort of response to any problem be acceptable?
For so many
years this has been life for the innocent Jewish children and their
parents in southern Israel. I cannot imagine this for longer than five
minutes!
When one looks at this part of the world, we see that
the entire Arab occupied Middle East land mass surrounds tiny Israel,
which exists like a frightened bird in a tree. If we compare the
irrationality of the Arab mind with the morally imbued people of
Israel, it becomes rather obvious why a truck full of lunatics, such as
Hamas thinks it is OK to launch rockets out of a fellow Arab’s property
while holding them at gun point. This is the mind that flew two
commercial airliners into the lives of countless human beings. I ask
you, how does one sympathize with this insanity?
I cannot for
the life of me understand how any American can protest in support of
Hamas. I simply have never heard of a Jewish homicide bomber have you?
That insanity resides only with the barbaric Islamists of Hamas and
groups of individuals who cherish death. It is madness to blame
Americans or Israeli's or anyone else!
[Incidentally, one who
commits suicide usually kills oneself; not innocent shoppers at Costco,
for example. It is monstrous to refer to these people as suicide
bombers. We collectively and sympathetically mourn those who commit suicide. None of us felt sorry for Timothy McVeigh.]
I personally know of a 14 year old mentally
challenged, Palestinian boy who was forced to wear a vest containing
little ball bearings. The wiring for the explosives went down into his
trousers. Once the Israeli army had him remove his trousers there we
saw his legs completely covered with plastic explosives. The child was
the bomb. They diffused the explosives and saved this child's life.
The
following letter was sent to me by my friend Brigitte Gabriel, a
Christian Arab who was persecuted by Muslems in Lebanon. She is the
author of “Because They Hate.” Brigitte was kind enough to post the
letter in the exact manner received on her website
(http://www.actforamerica.org/) She did not reprint this persons name,
understandably so.
My name is [name removed] and I live in Ashdod, Israel.
As
you probably know, eleven days ago Israel finally started to take
action in the Gaza strip in order to defend itself and its citizens. It
must be said that Israel's actions are in response to the violent
nature of the actions and threats of Hamas against us.
For
eleven days now, my city, along with other cities in the region of
southern Israel, have been and are being attacked and bombed by Hamas.
Together, we are a million people under the threat of being bombed.
What
we do today, what I do today, is standing against the missiles of
Hamas, a thing which I have never had to do before, so my Israeli
fellows that have been suffering from it for years will be able to live
in peace. A real peace, and not just a cease-fire for Hamas to take
advantage of and get rearmed. We suffer now so our Israeli brothers and
sisters can live in peace, AND so missiles won't ever become "routine"
in our cities too. What we don't do today, will cost us tomorrow.
As
a citizen of a western country (Israel of course), I have been
surprised to see the huge hypocrisy shown by the western world during
these eleven days. Protests and demonstrations against Israel and it's
actions all over the world, comparing us to the Nazis and calling us
murderers. All that from the people who have ignored the violent nature
of Hamas and it's actions and attacks against Israeli CITIZENS for
years and years.
That being said, I'd like to thank you and your
organization for your support and right view of reality. It's important
to me and other Israelis to know that there are sane voices out there
too.
And a personal message for Gabriel:
I joined your
website and organization after listening to your speeches on Youtube.
As I know your story, I know and understand that what we are doing
today is defending our home. Hamas, just like the radicals in Lebanon,
has no tolerance and doesn't want to live in peace with us. Hamas's
wish is to throw us into the sea. To take the only place I know as HOME
away from me. And neither I nor the Israeli people will stand for that
kind of wish.
So from the Israeli people and country - Thank you
Personally,
I would attempt to move heaven and hell to stop anyone who would lob
rockets into my home or into my neighborhood! Who among you would go
sip coffee and eat scones down at the local Starbucks given the same
situation?
