Levi Stubbs dies at 72

To his credit Mr. Levi Stubbs, lead singer of the MOTOWN group, the Four Tops has always been special to me. I don't know a thing about his life, his illness or anything. What I do know is his music. I remember putting those little, yellow inserts into those 45 records and waiting for the HI FI stereo to do the rest. That old brown piece of furniture that we all thought was the bomb! With it's walnut cabinet, 8 track system and pull out drawer that exposed the turn table, man was that thing super bad!

I remember rushing home from PS# 19 to 107 Elba Street, trying to be the first one home so I could listen to those record, those 45's. One of my favorites was "Baby I need Your Loving" by the Four Tops. I can't remember what was on the flip side, probably because I wasn't interested. We could play the 45's but the albums, well that was something different. Those belonged to my mom. I remember playing that record so much that the scratches soon made it annoying and time to get something new......"Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch, You know I love You. Can't help myself, I love you and nobody else" soon made its way to our neighborhood.

Mr. Levi Stubbs (and to all of the members of the mighty, Four Tops) thank you; thank you for the  music. Thank you for giving a little boy  from the ghetto of Rochester, NY a smile that has lasted most of my life! I think I have every one of your greatest hit releases over the last 30 years (on CD of course, smile)

To the family of Mr. Levi Stubbs,  I am sorry for your loss.
